Welcome! Published May 14, 2007 Tridd dot com is dedicated to the gay / straight allies community in Texas… and also to the Texas HIV+ community. I’d also like to welcome our friends who happen to live outside the great state of Texas. This site was developed after conversations with many who fear mistreatment because of their sexual identities. It also answers a gap in services that I discovered in East Texas AIDS service orgs, which is namely the unconditional acceptance of alternative lifestyles and a primary mission to build a nurture the LGBT / straight ally community. My perspective is unique… after living in places as diverse as Sacramento, CA, Colorado Springs, CO, Wichita, KS and coastal North Carolina, I can say that East Texas, as a region and as a culture, is one of the least welcoming to the gay community, and the least understanding of HIV needs and issues of any other region I’ve seen. On this site, you’ll find a user’s forum, where you can meet other people who are going through the same kinds of issues as you. This website was created in May of 2007, so come back often. As more people create forum profiles and voice their opinions… the more useful and powerful this site will be for all of us. I’m not some huge corporation — you can read more about me here. I promise to never charge a fee to use this site. I’m in this for the right reasons, as I hope the rest of us are. So whether you’re interested in activism or sharing problems or getting or giving advice… you’ve found the right place. Peace & love — Troy Carlyle |

My own private Memorial DayRemembering a way of life
It was 1989. God, that was twenty years ago. My life was perfect, really. I was an Air Force Captain, nickname “Magellan.” My fellow officers picked me as the best in Squadron Officer School, which was basically a popularity contest. I had received two Air Medals for courage under fire. I was a senior instructor navigator in one of the most top secret units in the country. Hell, we didn’t even answer to our North Carolina base commander, but to a tiny little office in Virginia, part of the National Security Administration. We were Air Force spooks. In 1989, I had been around the world so many times, I had developed a sort of instinctual feeling for how long it might take to walk it. Yet I was young, only twenty-eight years old. Five years earlier I had graduated from the Air Force Academy, in Colorado Springs, though I was never much of a conformist. As a cadet, I filmed a subversive satire on cadet life. ... (more)

Before he bought a blues bar, Troy was in the advertising business back in North Carolina. He was the lead man for a huge Grand Opening celebration for Jeff Gordon’s first car dealership. Here's a photo with Jeff taken during the event, circa 1998.
